Newsflash! The price of oil is going up, and its probably never going back down
That is a problem in the summer, because it makes it expensive to hop in the car and head for exotic destinations. But in the winter, that same overpriced oil can mean the difference between surviving comfortably, and shivering to death.
So, until we invent cheap and efficient hydrogen fuel cells, what are some of your plans for cutting costs and making every drop count this summer?
a programmable thermostat lets you turn the heat down at night, and only turns it back on when you really need it
a wood burning stove can heat up a small confined area quite well
rainfall can be reclaimed using special storage containers which are attached to gutters and on teh roof
More water can be saved by water plants using cooking water such as from pasta or hard boiled eggs. This water also tends to be high in nutrients (I learned that one from joey yesterday)
Windmills, solar panels, and low heat light bulbs! Woo Hoo!
how about just being conscious of what you do? Turning out lighst when you dont need them, unplugging things that arent being used.
Most of the world doesnt use switches to turn off their power, because a switch can still drain power from teh device. Instead they actaully unplug things, so that there is zero power use. Or they attach them to power strips that make it easy to pull the plugs
