Buy a pack of little bath toys for kids (rubbery duckies, or they even have assorted bath toys available) and glue them around the edges of cabinets for a fun, cute 3-D decor.

For my kitchen I went for a Nappa Valley wine type look. I have a large island that is covered with a granite counter top. The cabinets below are a dark, almost black wood color and contains two different wine refrigerators. As well as a sit at bar that over looks the kitchen. The bar has two beautiful dangling lights that hang on both sides. The Island is large enough that it contains a vegetable sink as well as my cook top. Behind the island is a double oven and microwave as well as sink. To the right is my refrigerator. The remaining of my cabinets are an off white aged look, my sink of course is a farmhouse sink. On the end of the island contains shelves for my cook books. My back splash is a sandstone tile that has splashes of burgundy color in it to bring out the wine color of the walls. For accents I have wine accessories, and even a wine bar that is made from an old wine barrel. Belle

I like cute little furry animals and I love those cute potholders that look like cute little animals. I have them hanging around the wall of the kitchen, so not only are they useful as potholders when I need them, but they also make nice decoration for your kitchen.

A Kitchen That Often Does Not Have A View Leaves It's Cooks Sad And With The Feeling Of Confinement So A Good Idea Is To Have Some Moral On The Wall In Front Of The Sink, Microwave, Etc. Have A Picture Of Something That Makes One Smile Or Relaxes Someone When They see It. In My Kitchen Personally It Is Rather Closed In So I Have A Picture Of The Sea With A Lighthouse And It Is Made Out Of Tiles Which Goes Well With The Rest Of The Kitchen. Tiles With Paintings On Them Are Actually Pretty Popular And Can be Picked Up At Nearly Any Hardware Store. The Installing Of These Picture Tiles Is As Simple As Laying Tiles Anywhere And In A Matter Of Less Than An Hour One Will Have A Picture That Will Brighten A Dark Kitchen

To really personalize a plate display area, have your children's artwork transferred onto small commemorative plates, and put them up. You could display one plate per year of elementary school, or one plate per child. You could even intersperse the art plates with other decorative plates, which could be seasonal, traditional, or heirloom choices. Either way, you'll be able to display your children's unique artwork proudly, and it'll last much longer than a painting taped to the fridge!

Wallpaper decals such as hummingbirds can be pasted around the room. I had them go along the upper border and down the pantry door. Adds nice color and makes it feel more homey. Trizma

When you a giving you kitchen a makeover use recessed lighting to avoid the task of washing dust and grease off of your light fixtures.

My husband and I tried to make our kitchen as unique as possible, but still functional. We went with a 50's diner theme. The floor is black & white tilre, and we have old tin advertising signs for hamburgers & hot dogs on the walls. We found old diner sugar holders and napkin holders at a goodwill store. We even have old diner plates. We found a 2 person booth at a yard sale to complete the look. It was inexpensive and old diner stuff is fairly easy to find.

When you are decorating your kitchen and if you have a working island where you cook and eat, I would suggest that you purchase decorative iron brackets to place under the island top extension in the eating area of the countertop. Connect the bracket from the bottom of the countertop to the frame of the island. It will give your island more stabiity and will create a beautiful focal point in your kitchen. We love ours and continued to purchase a few other decorative iron pieces to complement the decor. Maggie
