The main purpose of the bedroom is as a place of rest. Therefore its really important to find ways to make this space as peaceful as possible.
Smell Relaxed - As humans we are so focused on sight and sound, that we sometimes forget we have other senses. The smell of the bedroom can be very important fro sending subconscious cues to a person, telling them it is safe to relax. Lavender, \Rose Petal, and lilac are all aromas which can be purchased either as oils, or as incense, and can be used to add another whole dimension of comfort to the space.
Sensual Relaxation - Along with smell, we are also negligent about indulging our sense of touch. Splurge on some high end satin sheets, revel in getting a few extra threads in your Egyptian cotton. Hand in hand with this is learning how to care for your sheets, and doing what is necessary to keep them soft and smooth when you wash them. It is worthless spending a lot of money on premium bedding if you are just going to make it stiff and scratchy the first time you wash it.
Temperature Relaxation - It gets darker at night when the sun goes down. For this reason, our bodies are biologically programmed to get tired when it gets colder. Besides, it just feels wonderful snuggling up under the covers while a veil of sensual chill descends upon you. there is something about being bundled up when there is cold all around that just makes you tired.
Color Me Peaceful - Color plays an important role in influencing our subconscious minds. Bright, and harsh colors, and even specific tones such as crimson, can cause you to feel excited and agitated. On the other hand, there are many colors which are soothing such as pastels, gentle blues, and natural grassy greens. These colors tend to remind our subconscious of peaceful places, such as meadows, brooks, and streams, and our bodies relax accordingly
Relax Before Bed - Life and living is a process. You cant expect to rush around like a mad person all day, then hop into bed and instantly fall into a restful repose. Try scheduling some time to unwind just before bed. This can be done by taking a long soak in a warm bath, listening to some soothing music, or even scheduling a massage. If you are married, you and your partner can take turns rubbing each other, or you can invest in one of those electric massage chairs.
Turn Off The Lights - We were made to sleep when it is dark out, and be awake when its bright out. That means to get the best sleep possible, you should shut the lights, close the drapes, and turn off that television.
Socks? Yes that's right, studies have shown that wearing socks to bed does make a person more likely to fall asleep, It probably has something to do with retaining the bodies heat and allowing your internal temperature to drop
