The bedroom is the most personal and is arguably the most important space in the home. It is there that you relax, let down your guard, and slip slowly into sleep. It’s where your mind processes events, and then sets itself in order, readying you for the day ahead. It is also the place where you dream, and where inspiration is born in your soul.
So the bedroom is important, on both a physical and psychological level. But if your
bedroom is boring, irritating, or otherwise annoying you, you might be suffering needlessly. There are a number of easy and inexpensive projects you can undertake to give the space a whole new feel.
First, make sure it is neat, tidy, and clean. This is a simple and free way to ensure that the space stays looking its best, without having to spend any money on
home decor.
Next you should look at the colors in the room. Paint is a relatively low cost way to dramatically change the look of a room.
You don’t even have to paint a whole wall. Adding color to just the molding around doors and windows can add interesting contrasts to the room.
There are also a number of fabric paints that you can use to actually customize the appearance of couches and other upholstered items. Fabric paint can usually be found at any craft store, and if used properly, is machine washable.
Fabric paint can also be used to make your own tapestries. Purchase sheets in whatever color you like, apply a pattern or create a picture across the surface of the sheet, and then hang it from your walls, or your ceiling.
Another great use for sheets is to create a customized duvet for your comforter. A new comforter is an expensive proposition, but for the price of two large sheets, you can basically make your comforter look like new.
Choose sheets in whatever colors or patterns you like, making sure they are the same size as the comforter being treated. Then sow them together on three sides, and use buttons or Velcro to fasten the fourth.
Decorative throw pillows can also be made using rolled up towels covered in attractive fabric and tied at the ends with ribbon.
Make certain that the various fabrics in the room all match and coordinate with one another. Even if you are using simple or inexpensive materials, the fact that they match will bring the room together.
Redecorating your bedroom is a therapeutic process that is healthy for both the mind and the body, and it doesn’t have to break the bank. Using a few clever tricks, and some creativity, as well as a little common sense, you can easily re-create the look and feel of this space whenever you want.
